Y'know, if it were just a message of teaching, that would be one thing. Engaging with people like Christ did would be helpful. Making it an Us vs. Them creates more conflict than it resolves. And advocating and campaigning for laws that force social compliance to said teaching … is something else altogether. #ddtb

Pope Benedict XVI urged bishops to beef up their teaching about the evils of premarital sex and cohabitation, and denouncing what he called the “powerful” gay marriage lobby in America.

It strikes me that a command-and-control approach is precisely what is NOT needed, if the US Bishops hope to retain any influence. But I'm afraid it's the only approach that the Church (esp. its Rome branch) understand.
