So why did North Korea confess to having a nuclear weapons program?

I’ve heard a lot of speculation, and a lot of head scratching. I mean, everyone expects that countries will vehemently deny having such a program, even in the face of anything but a big mushroom cloud going off in the background.

Here’s my uninformed two cents of an idea, and one I haven’t seen suggested in the press:

“So whaddaya gonna to do, Bush-baby? Invade us? Shyeah, right. That’s your justification for invading Iraq, right? That they’re building nukes. And we all know how much flak you’ve gotten from the rest of the international community over that idea. You’ve been shut down, Mr. Bush. So screw you. We’re working on nukes, despite vast starvation in our country. But we know you’ll keep shipping us food. You’ve accused us of being part of some Axis of Evil. Big frickin’ deal. Whaddaya gonna do about it, without a UN Security Council resolution? A big fat nothing, that’s what. Talk, talk, talk, negotiate, negotiate, negotiate. If our announcement puts yet another wrench into the cogwork of your attack plans on our fellow Axis member, well, nyah-nyah-nyah. Couldn’t make us happier. Now stop bugging us; we’re busy re-kidnapping people from Japan, who won’t do anything to us, either.”
