Though my purchase of a Nest thermostat and Google's purchase of Nest for $3.2bn took place at roughly the same time, they're decision didn't affect mine, and (I presume) vice-versa.

It is interesting how both Microsoft and Google are increasingly active in the "hardware" space. (Apple, of course, has been there since Day 1.)
