I went through a very brief phase of enjoying Mary Engelbreit's artwork about two-plus decades back, but immediately got over it. She was just too stylized and nice and saccharine and glurgy.
One problem with being an artist like that is when you step, intentionally or not, into controversy. But more power to her.

I had no idea who she was, but thought the reaction to this piece was newsworthy.

I wonder how Norman Rockwell’s fans received The Problem We All Live With?
@George – Rockwell could be a lot more subversive than his Mom & Apple Pie image indicated. A lot of that was enforced by the editorial staff of The Saturday Evening Post. When he left the Post for Look, he was able to produce works like this (http://www.everydaycitizen.com/2008/02/norman_rockwell_and_the_civil.html has a few added examples).
Good on her.
