That mighty rumble, purr, or deep-throated roar of your uber-sexy muscle-car-pickup-vehicle … may be being "enhanced" by sound files played through your stereo system.
On the one hand, it seems so goofy as to be laughable. It's arguably deceptive, but not in a way that affects the actual performance or mileage. And, let's face it, there's a lot, already, about vehicle design that is just "fabricating the car’s sexiness."
Still … it certainly says something about people (Americans, at least) and their cars.
America’s best-selling cars and trucks are built on lies: The rise of fake engine noise
The growl from some best-selling cars and trucks is actually well-tuned lip-syncing or digitally faked.
I like quiet cars! Noisy mufflers have the same effect on me as fingernails on a chalkboard.
Yeah, I'm sorry to hear that electric cars are getting artificial sounds, though I understand why. I'd prefer if it weren't IC motor noises, though. Something different and cool would be better.
Like a TIE fighter sound!
With cars that use computer tuning, hacking and making it sound like some other car is a big thing.
I think my BMW artificially improves the engine noise in the cabin, and I think it's great!
Yeppers, here you go.
