The crisis of yesterday, while still annoying, seems averted.

  • Thinking outside of the box, I started laying some groundwork for possibly moving that person’s functionality to another office.
  • I also contacted someone here in Denver on the operations side who I thought might be able to fill some of that role. Huzzah — he’s pretty much free and scratching for work.

  • I discovered that the office where the person leaving is also short on work, and the ops people are making moves to backfill a lot of the function (which, to be sure, was less IT than document control, which was part of the problem) out of folks already there.

Indeed, the biggest problem I have may be that I’ve made too many motions to respond to the crisis, and folks might think I’m treading on toes. Which, I guess, will l’arn me, but, heck, it’s a much better way of heading out on vacation …
