You meet the strangest people online …
Hi David,
Please don’t be alarmed. I’m not your evil doppelganger… nor have I stolen your identity.
I stumbled upon your Amazon reviews completely by chance. But here’s the odd thing – you like comic books? Well, I’ve produced my own comic book called ‘Glory Be!’ that I’ve published myself since last August. Here’s the link to my site, if you want to see for yourself…

I live in England, but just wanted to say hi to my namesake …
Best regards,
David C Hill (Dave)
PS: My C stands for Charles.
I went to the site, and, yes, indeed, the name “Dave Hill” is spattered all over the place. It’s … vaguely disturbing, even though I’ve hardly got the least common name on the planet.
Still, he seems like a decent enough sort, and certainly the name alone is worth recommending you pop on over and check the place out.
I’m actually surprised at how common “Les Jenkins” is as I’ve always held the delusion that it was an uncommon name. Doing an ego search on Google reveals that at least one semi-famous jazz musician shares the name as well as some guy with a religious themed amusement park and some insurance salesman. Reality is more in-line with my perceptions when I use my full name, but even that isn’t as uncommon as I’d tend to think.
Well, I think we’ve finally tracked down Dave Hill, International Man of Mystery!
My best friend from 3rd and 4th grades was named Dave Hill. Whenever I talk to my parents about either one of you, I have to clarify whether it’s the Dave Hill from Pomona or the one from Jakarta. Both of you work in computers/IT.
There have been, in my memory, Dave Hills who were a pro tennis player, golfer, and race car driver.
Doing a quick “Dave Hill” search in Google comes up with 219K hits, including “a Los Angeles based jazz guitarist,” a “Master Hypnotist & Illusionist” (Psi-clone?), me, a graphics designer (including collector of classic SF fonts) (and mentioned separately here), an English actor, another “a writer, performer, musician, actor, comedian, artist, and thinking man living in the Big City, New York,” a glam band “Superyob” member (who also gets the Wikipedia entry).
Narrowing it down to “David C. Hill,” we get my Amazon profile, a lawyer, a senior vice president of operational excellence, a math prof at UNC Charlotte, the retiring chief engineer on the Corvette, and a deceased Teamsters truck driver nicknamed “Hitman.”
I am by no means the most distinguished of the bunch, but I sure have a pretty big Net presence.
We are legion …
