Monday Munchies

2006-01-29_hostess.jpgI don’t know if this will be a flash in the pan or something with a very long shelf life, but we’ve ended up building a small SG on Freedom called the Hostess Heroes, dedicated to heroes with a snack food theme.
*cough*
On the right are our two entries to this sorded little band, Ho Ho and Princess Peep.
I loved Ho Hos as a kid.
(I revelled in getting two separate “OMG!” messages from Doyce, the first for the character herself (“You’re going to get banned like Rushdie!”), then for the weapon (“A BATTLEAXE?!”). On the latter I opined that they didn’t have a switchblade option for tanks. On the former — well, frankly, I’ve seen a lot more annoying character names, and I actually hope it’s such a clever pun that nobody will much mind. I’m certainly not trying to be all that offensive.
(Katherine thought I was naming her “Ho Ho Ho” and was disappointed to see someone who didn’t look more like Santa.)
The idea with the Hostess Heroes is to provide a regular Monday “relaxing” team-up with a lot of laughs. With the others in the group (Ring Ding, Ginger Snap, Captain Funyun, Bear Claw, Mmm Pie, Twinkie Kid, etc.), that shouldn’t be too hard.

  1. I found out about the group when I sent Mmm Pie a Tell about that hero’s name, which I found to be quite amusing. Not as amusing as her origin, which had me laughing out loud as soon as I heard the set-up.
I was quickly invited to create a character for the group (having been suggested by Ring Ding), and told that ***Dave was working on a character idea based on Ho Hos.
I wasn’t convinced of my ability to create one, but with a little prompting from Mmm Pie, I came up with Captain Funyun (how long before he gets Generic Heroed, I wonder). I logged in and ran with Mmm Pie and Bear Claws (the player of the latter being amused at my surprise on learning his identity, having forgotten he was Globally Hidden), learning how to be a Controller. They were quite patient, not complaining about all the hospital trips as I learned how *not* to play a Controller.
Before long, we were joined by the Twinkie Kid and Ring Ding. Then Princess Peep and Ho Ho joined the SG and the team, and were quickly followed by Ginger.Snap (whose player’s identity I had incorrectly surmised).
    Then I met Ho Ho.
Honestly, I don’t know when I’ve laughed harder in this game. The character’s appearance was completely unlike anything I would have imagined for, yet quite apropos, in a twisted and politically incorrect way. I was surprised, shocked, and tremendously entertained. My main concern is that Dave seems to be getting a bit too much into the RP. It’s a little scary.
And for the record, my immediate in-game OOC response to meting Ho Ho was “Oh… my… God!,” to which Dave replied “Yes?” I could virtually see him smirking.
I was also expecting Peep to be pink. We seem to have a lot of yellow in our group. Unavoidable, I suppose, given our theme. I’m wondering if her costume will change periodically to pastel blue, green, or pink.
I wish I’d had the opportunity to meet the Oreo of Justice. We had 8 of our 9 members on that team!
I’m also considering changing my origin slightly. I had two similar ideas. I went with the irradiated Funyuns, but I’m starting to prefer my other idea, now that I’ve come up with a better way to implement it. Yeah. I’ll change it when I log him in again.
I look forward to teaming with you folks again, although I would like to be there for Zepher-Storm tonight, if she has room for me on her team. See you tonight?

  2. When I think of Peeps, I usually think of the yellow ones. Given the large number of yellow characters, though, I suspect she’ll shift over to Radioactive Green once costume changes are available.
I find it interesting that there are two Rads in the group (Defender and Controller secondary). Makes for lots of glowy goodness (and for a longer shelf life!).

  3. I had this idea that Ginger.Snap was going to be Ginger Spice, only a hero, but the really odd British accent seemed to immediately fall by the wayside. At least I got the boots right…

  4. What are the existing ATs / Powersets in this? Playing around with ideas in my head and don’t want to make a character that is horribly redundant.

  5. Really doesn’t matter…
Just come up with something that you would have fun playing.
    All.
    About.
    The.
    Fun. 🙂

  6. Even spread Tanks to Squids. Find something fun and go with it. As for themes most of us are sweet snack, but Captain Funyon helps us balance our salty and sweet needs.

  7. As noted, we have literally one of each AT (well, unless you count the two Kheldians as different).
Yellow seems to be popular as a color theme. Maybe Cheez-it the Cop? Cheez Whizzerd?
Or maybe Snickers-Snee? Kit-Kat? Cherry Cheesecake? The Necco-mancer? Nessie Quik?
Hell, I could fill the server … 🙂

  8. Oh, no! Dave’s altitis has flared up! If it’s contagious, we could have the largest supergroup in existence in a week or two.
Let’s see… If we each create a full roster of Hostess heroes on Freedom…
Maybe we’d better make a rule excluding alts. Or else I’d better start working on Fig Neutron and Sno-Ball (would Sno-Balls be too risque for an Ice Tanker?).

  9. I finally got around to playing CoH. Partly due tot he free invite to CoV from ***Dave, but mostly to join this group. Hell, I am finally getting my account back online just to keep running around as Cheesy Poof. You guys are fun as hell to play with.
As if there were ever any doubt.

  10. Had much fun with Cheesy too. Look forward to seeing you more. Any routine heroes/villians can go into the consortiums on Champion.
