Knights night

Last night was the first (monthly?) Knights Night, a Storm Knights gathering, organized by Mal. We had an amazing turn-out — at least a dozen on at one point, and some beyond that, too. Fazenda and Araware got on earlier than I’d expected, did some initial teaming in Skyway; shifted over to a team with Baron Rufus and Silver-Streak, et al., fighting Nemmies and Rikti via Portal Corp (and let me tell you — negotiating through PI at level 16 is a hoot); nearly went to the new dance club; ended up going back to Portal Corp to help Pummelcite’s team take down Psychic Babbage …
2006-02-02_sk-babbage.jpg… which last was, nearly, a cakewalk. No deaths. No serious injuries. We had more trouble and took more time getting to the dude than actually taking him down. Mal spent more time Deceiving his attendant clocks and getting them to fight one another than we did in finally wiping out Psychic Babbage.
That was helped by having a lot of Controllers — the managed to lock down PB in ice for a while, and Mal even managed to Deceive him briefly — plus three bubblers of various sorts, plus a couple of folks with healing, plus plenty of damage-dealers, plus a strong tank build in Pummelcite. (The pic shows, by the way, from L-R, Starrboy, Kessa, Araware, Fazenda, Mal, Puck Bunny and Noelle Frost — Pummy is on the opposite side of the frozen PB, keeping his attention.)
Both Araware and Fazenda did end up eating dirt some four times over the course of the evening, most often in conjunction with being out of SK range whilst in PI or beyond the Portal. Way too easy to get one-shotted. In at least one case, everyone in the group went down.
It was interesting shifting, in-between battles and missions, between “energy blaster” mode and “heal spammer mode. Tried to use Faz’s “witty banter” keys, which was fun, and I think I managed to contribute pretty well. Early-on tuning of the energy blasts to avoid untoward knockback were countered by ending up on an early team that was riddled with energy blasters — Kessa (NRG/NRG) and another EMP/NRG Defender. Almost seems to be a requirement for the Knights …
It was great seeing the turn-out, and heartened me considerably.
Since the SKs are still in CC with at least some of the CU teams, I did end up hearing more chatter there — and got some nice examples of exactly the sort of thing I don’t miss having during my game sessions. I leave that to the SK management, though — I can put up with it on rare occasions. 🙂
Didn’t get into the Pocket-D club, but it’s going to be convenient having something that bridges Talos, FF, and Kings Row. We already “borrow” the FP porters to get to some of the hazard zones. Between that and Pocket-D, transport time should be even further reduced.
A good evening.

  1. Yep…it was a great evening. 🙂
The mission before this was Diabolique.
The one who ran us around the graveyard and drug us through every Mob this side of the Rouge Islands the last time I went up against her.
The last time though was Puck Sk’d to Noelle…who was 45 at the time…so we were not the controller power house that we are now.
This time she only got off one attack at the very start….and that was it. She went out attrackless and quickly between Mal, Noelle, and Puck. There were only a few deaths…that happened when people got seperated…or when Noelle went into kamikaze mode, and I went to rescue her during the entire mission.
But all in all a great evening, and I can’t wait for the next one since I do miss the SK’s…they are/were my second favourite SG in the Alliance. 🙂

  2. I wasn’t in kamikaze mode! I was scouting ahead!!
This does go some way towards explaining why my scouts in my friend’s F2F game kept dying.

  3. I had a lot of fun with both teams. The Rufus team was a bit less “epic,” full of more desparate battles, a few more tactical errors, more deaths, but exciting. A knife fight, compared to the Pummy team (before and after), which was more of a strategic steamroller, an elegant main fleet battle. Biggest diff, I suspect, was the absence/presence of good control — tank/controllers. 🙂

  4. Yes…
It has been mentioned to me at least once that there are folks that are missing good controllers. 🙂

  5. I’m glad somebody had fun last night. Our Infernal mission was a disaster. The level ranges didn’t work well, and it became routine to have half the party wiped out. Exemping to 41 on a 45 mision is bad enough before you get to the AV. After he slaughtered us, we SKed everybody up to 50 and were slaughtered again. I thought I was on Altar-destroying duty and didn’t notice the Team messages telling me to switch to the AV. (Note! If I don’t respond to messages in Team chat, it’s because I didn’t see/hear them. If you need to get a message to me, send a Tell. That goes to a separate window, and between that visual and the different chime, I should spot it and respond.) We gave up after that.
I, of course, was thoroughly demoralized. I don’t remember the last time I logged off at 8:00. I expect I’ll be reluctant to join teams for some time because of my poor performance last night.
I was amused to see Puck Bunny join your team. BD, was it weird being the only non-SK on the team? Liberty Force let me hook up with them on one of their LF-only outings a few weeks ago. Avo even got to see their base, although he didn’t leave the reception area, in case anything was “classified,” despite assurances by some that he was free to look around. It made for some interesting RP as LFers wondered why he was there.
As far as chat goes, there was a lot of confusion because the Storm Knights could only be heard by a few of those on our CC. In fact, some people were so frustrated by it that they actually turned off CC. Ironic, isn’t it?

Thank you for the Irony Avo…that hit the spot. 🙂 Yum.
Yep, you logged off early and quickly, and I didn’t even get a chance to send you a tell saying good-bye.
There were other bits of Irony last night as well…also because all the Knights were on, and then later, members of FOUND. I loved every moment of it.
No, it was not…RP Wise Puck considers herself a SK as well as a Phalanxer, she follows the Baron’s rules when she is on their teams (which was a wonderful bit of RP between the Baron and Puck as they went over the rules 🙂 ), and she has her little badge say Knight Errent…which is sort of her feeling on the subject.
The Knights, as I have said before, are her favourite SG outside of the Phalanx…and I was going to do a bit of RP to move over before the Rift.
Also, Avo…if you are feeling down or demoralized…send me a tell and I will see what I can do.
But, like you…I tend to focus on the task that I have been assigned as part of the “Plan”. Team messaging does not register during a battle most times for me because of all the rest of the battle noise.
I guess I won’t point out that the team from the other night Rolled Infernal (who was at L52?!?)without one death…and took him and the alter out in like 5 minutes…tops.
It’s all about the plan…and following it. Also, having the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th best controllers from the pre-rift Alliance doesn’t hurt at all either. ;P

  7. Thanks, but when I’m “feeling down or demoralized” I’d just as soon not spread it any further.
Oh, and 76’s player already took the trouble remind me of the amazing Infernal team of the other night, to point out that my presence doesn’t necessarily doom the mission. I hope I didn’t give the impression that it was all my fault. We had many problems. I just sort of obsess about my role, particularly since it was immediately after that that the mission was abandoned, with low spirits all around.
Also, I wasn’t too clear as to exactly which plan we were following on our last attempt. I guess I should have asked.
Anyway, you might not see Avo for awhile.

  8. Well…
    Buck up Avo. 🙂
As I said…If I see you solo, and I can drag you over, I will.
As to the planning…If they don’t tell you right off the bat. Just a simple “what do you want me to do?” should be a gentle reminder for those that think they are in charge.
    But yeah…76 is right.
As long as things have been spelled out and you have a clear idea of what to do…you rock. Be it CF, Avo, or BR. Sounds like you just need to remind the folks with the star that they need to lead and not just be there.

  9. I wish you’d been along with us earlier, Avo — you’d have fit in perfectly with all the other NRG blasting types. 🙂

  10. Two nights in a row now I’ve logged out by 8:00 PM. That’s unheard of. I hope it’s not indicative of any major shift in my attitude toard the game. I’d hate it if playing becomes a chore.
Say, until I reread this post, I hadn’t realized that Pocket-D could serve as a shortcut between zones! KR to FF, huh? Cool!

  11. *chuckles*
    Yeppers Avo.
In fact, until they moved the entrances, PDP use to be my short cut to Terra Volta and IP…especially the southern portion of IP.

  12. My understanding is that the original entrances for PDP were much more convenient in their zones — and that they were moved precisely because they were being used for transportation (which, for some reason, gave the Devs conniptions).
Presumably they’ve gotten over that, insofar as we now have a convenient way of getting to FF.
