How do I express my disdain without being impolite?

no-cursing

I have to confess, I’m getting tired of throwing around terms like wingnut, idiot, cretin, buffoon, nut case, asshat, idjit, stupid, lunatic, etc. It actually makes me feel uncomfortable, because I am a nice guy, and I don’t like being insulting, impolite, and uncivil, even if others are. It doesn’t improve the quality of discourse.

On the other hand, it’s such convenient shorthand when someone is being a wingnut, idiot, cretin, etc. I mean, I could belabor why I feel the latest idiocy to fly out of someone’s mouth is, in fact, factually unsupportable, logically fallacious, and ethically dubious … but there’s far too much idiocy out there, and I do, in fact, have a full time job and family responsibilities to take care of. I need a shortcut.

So does anyone have any good suggestions how I could express such sentiments succinctly, stylishly, effectively, and civilly?
