After the good luck we had with my ASUS laptop, we zeroed in on the ASUS system that was at our local Best Buy — the ASUS Essentio CG5270-BP003. The CG5270 is rated as a budget “game-friendly” machine — not nearly a fully tricked-out gaming rig, but with one of the new NVidia GT220 1Gb cards, a Quad-Core Intel CPU (2.50GHz), and 8Gb RAM for starters. For $750, that struck us as a pretty good deal.
We did indeed go to Best Buy for the purchase, largely because they had what we wanted and the price was reasonable as we shopped around online. I’m going to relate that tale separately, though.
Anyway, the machine is home and installed upstairs on a spare, tiny monitor we have as a backup. We’ve started working around the migration from Margie’s old computer to this one, but that will likely take a bit, but there’s no huge rush.
Didn’t quite expect to buy two new machines so back-to-back, but I think it’ll work out okay. Until Katherine starts complaining about her laptop, at least …
