Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- A Case Study in Right-Wing Myth Making: Kyle
- Sign Fail – It took me a good minute to figure out what the hell this was talking about. Then I just rolled my eyes.
- Leave Murphy Alone (also new Fantasmic Dragon debuts at Disneyland) | The Disney Blog – Nice dragon!
- Jim Hill : Toon Tuesday: “Phineas & Ferb” serve up a September to remember – Our whole household love "Phineas & Ferb." The soundtrack is already on order.
- Don’t Have $5,300 For Season Tickets? The Washington Redskins Will Sue You Into Bankruptcy [Contracts] – Nice. One way to make up some revenue.
- Police Say Walmart Shopper Slapped A Stranger’s Kid [Bad Consumer] – Now I know why I learned karate — so I could punch this asshole in the neck. “See, shut you up, too.”
- Breaking: Literature Is Dead – Another faboo reason never to (re)read Wuthering Heights.
- Obama speech divides parents – The Denver Post – Wow. I suspect just a few years ago that any parent who refused to let her child listen to a speech by the president would have had his or her loyalty and patriotism questioned. Ah, but, then, that was a white, Republican president.
- The Civil War in Four Minutes – Video – This is very cool. The borders/battle-lines are a bit too definitively drawn (this was still an era when the “front” was the interface between individual armies and corps, not a defended line), but still reasonable. The given and take of territory is fascinating to watch, as the casualty count continues to mount.
- RSS Is Dead, So Is The RSS Fund (Dan Primack/PE Hub Blog) – RSS is not “cool.” That doesn’t mean it’s dead. And … what the hell do you need an RSS investment fund for?
- How to Be Inspired and Not Intimidated by Other Photographers – Don’t let the perfect become the enemy of the good. Ansel Adams almost certainly took a lot of crap before he got good — and probably took a lot of crap even after, but that’s not what got published.
- Television news is killing America [The Island of Doubt] – Yup. Civil discourse isn’t exciting. Zany and violent discourse is. So it gets covered. So folks who want to be covered, partake of incivility … or else think that’s the norm because, well, that’s all they ever see.
- Campus Traffic Patterns [Uncertain Principles] – I’ve always felt it made sense to put in the sidewalks, look at where people are cutting across them, then lay sidewalks in those areas, too — or instead. It would look nicer than dirt ruts.
- Yale University Press capitulates to religious extremists. – By Christopher Hitchens – Slate Magazine – Wow. That’s pretty depressing.
- Now the Birthers are demanding to know: Was Obama circumcised? – Crikey.
- 08/31/09 PHD comic: ‘Peak Productivity’ – If not for a work schedule, this would be me.
- Conservative media take note: Reagan preached tax cut gospel to America’s students – “Do Sean Hannity and the folks at NewsBusters think President Reagan was engaging in Maoist indoctrination? Do Glenn Beck and WorldNetDaily think Reagan was pulling a Mussolini or attempting to assemble his own Hitler Youth?”
- “Isn’t parental important also of great importance.” – (Rolls eyes.)
- I don’t have bad habits, I’m just practicing good health. – Woot! Bad habits for the win! (I come in at 9 of 12.)
