As noted (and as we’ve seen elsewhere), it’s very difficult to truly anonymize data. I’d argue further that unless the state has a compelling reason to collect such data and is showing it’s using it toward a legitimate end, it’s an infringement of doctor-client privilege.

- It Takes All Kinds – “How do you deal with the fact that there are so many books out there that you think are BAD?” Being a finicky eater, I’ve long since reconciled the difference between my taste and that of others, and try not to mistake my aesthetic for some sort of univeral (let alone moral) dictum. An interesting twist — while deacons and priests who cross over can be married, bishops cannot. That might influence some decisions. Meanwhile, this distracts (as noted) from what’s going on in Uganda, where both Christian (esp. Anglican) and Muslim leaders are evidently gung-ho over a new law that changes the penalty for “aggressive” homosexuality from life imprisonment to death.

Public Wary Of Military Solutions In Afghanistan And Iran – I wouldn’t say “Public Wary” but “Public Weary” — the actions of the Bush Adminstration in Afghanistan (getting us in but trying it on the cheap while we were engaged in Iraq) and Iraq (plowing increasing dollars and lives for nebulous if not phony premises to begin with then for no solidly accepted reason to continue) not only destroyed our international credibility but have made the US populace tired of extending the conflicts, regardless of the merits of doing so.

- George H. W. Bush on civility in politics : Thoughts from Kansas – I would expect the Elder Bush to be sensitive to criticisms of his son. That said, I think he is both absolutely correct in calling for civility in the political rhetoric of this country (while still remaining honest as to the facts and one’s interpretation of them), and dead wrong that the rhetoric of the Left during W’s presidency was as bad as the rhetoric from the Right during the current Administration. Neither “side” is blameless here, but it seems the Right has escalated matters a bloody order of magnitude since losing power.

Oh, nice find on the 32 v 64 bit thing.
The intense color of those photos from Russia make them seem otherworldly, especially the blues and greens. The amazing clarity of those early photo processes are something we gave up as photography was made more instantaneous.
I’m not sure the colors are as otherworldly as they defy expectations — as if the old world should be black-and-white, sepia-toned (or coffee-toned), or at least faded.
