- UPDATED: Senate Dems. drop “alter” public option – Problem #1: The Democrats (unlike the ideologically purist GOP) have a wide array of ideological positions, including folks who could just as easily run as (R). So the 60-vote super-majority has never eally existed. #2: Democratic party discipline has never matched that of the GOP. #3: The GOP has managed to game Senate rules, after years of decrying the whole “filibuster” thing as evil and undemocratic, to make the threat of filibuster require anything controversial in the Senate require a 60-40 super-majority. The result? The GOP (with their Dem fellow travelers) coerce a health care reform bill that favors Big Insurance and, despite some positive provisions, will end up costing everyone more for less service — which the GOP will be quick to reap political bennies from.

The shot of the Amazon fulfillment center literally made my jaw drop. While I was eating chocolate. Close call.
Thanks, as always, for some meaty posts, ***Dave. My only quibble is that I’m not sure I could consider Thunderbird 3 for e-mail unless it was fully integrated into the system Address Book. From what I’ve read, the ‘integration’ goes only one way, so if you add someone within the program they stay only in the program. That could be fine for some, but since I sync Address Book among four Macs, an iPod, and an iPhone, it’s potentially a big limitation. It looks like Mozilla’s made some big strides forward on other fronts, though, so there’s still hope that it could someday be a contender to unseat Mail 🙂
I can see why that would be a limitation for you — I’ve always bitched about Windows’ lack of a centralized address book (or, rather, a succession of them).
