Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- NEW: Post to WordPress from Tweetie and Other Twitter Apps – Though it doesn’t work with stand-alone WP. You can do the same thing with something like TwitterTools — but, honestly, I don’t want each Tweet to turn into a blog entry, and I if I want to read blogs on my Blackberry, I’ll use Google Reader Mobile (which I do).
- Finally! – Of course, it makes little difference what the general population wants, as long as a minority of GOP and Blue Dog Dems in the Senate get to decide the whole thing.
- Oooh Noes! Somebody alert Bill O’Reilly and Glenn Beck! – The Christianist Right would be, I’m sure, horribly offended at this, but not see it at all similar to their own actions. That’s because consistency, fairness, justice, have nothing to do with it for them — it’s all about winning.
- The dangers of clear thinking – I’m pleased I’ve had a few moments of “clear thinking” over the past week, and that anyone was around to see them.
- The Easter Island Teabaggers – Denial is a river all over the world and throughout history.
- The Ugandan Trade: Death Penalty for Conversion Clause – The fear, of course, is that if Uganda drops the most insanely awful parts of this bill, it will cause people to overlook the merely horrific bits. Like criminal penalties for not ratting out gays in your family, or for speaking out for gay rights. Or, for that matter, the whole “conversion therapy” process.
- Matthew Yglesias » Can We Eliminate Violent Conflict? – John Bolton is an ass. The irony is, in the sort of Hobbesian state of nature that he thinks we all live in, he wouldn’t survive five minutes.
- Court Ruling Vindicates Grayson’s Argument That The ACORN Funding Ban Is Unconstitutional – Damned straight it’s a bill of attainder. Jeez.
- Grassley finally condemns Ugandan Anti-Homosexuality Bill: It’s ‘un-Christian and unjust.’ – Thank you, Sen. Grassley. It’s about time, assuming that your “respect for life” really does apply around the world.
- Gingrich’s New Contract With America: ‘Our Commitment Should Be Simple…We’re Repealing’ Health Care – I guess they think their fearmongering is going to pay off. The irony is, if the Dems could force through something big and immediate, the GOP wouldn’t stand a chance. By watering it down to near nothing and pushing most of its provisions out 2-3 years, there won’t be any reason for the American public to buy into it.
- Rumored Twitter For BlackBerry Client by Research In Motion Makes First Tweets?!?: Team CrackBerry
- strip for December / 07 / 2009 – This sounds uncomfortably familiar …
- Physicists to FlashForward: You Are Full Of Crap [Bad Science] – It’s vaguely sad that they have to explain this to the public. “No, the TV show is not real.”
- ‘Chuck’: 6 things about season three: Rick Porter
- Makin’ Bacon – BACON!
- Emrich rants about being connected to “kill gays” bill – Basic message: “Homosexuality is awful, evil, perverted, destructive, nasty, immoral, exploitative, Satanic, etc., etc., but, yeah, even though I completely empathize with Uganda wanting to get rid of all those nasssssty gays who are being seduce by the Western World, I suppose, if pressed, that I’d have to admit that executing them is probably not the most optimal way to handle their sick, disgusting, destructive, awful, perverted behavior and the threat they pose to Uganda, America, and the world.” Gee, thank for the clarification, dude.
- No DOMA Repeal Attempt In 2010 (And Maybe Not Until 2013) – Given the debacle of how the Dems have handled health care reform legislation, maybe it’s just as well that overturning DOMA has been abandoned until the next Congress — by which time I would expect the GOP to gain back more seats, making passage even more problematic.
- Scott Lively “Commends” The Brave Ugandans Who Want To Kill Gays – So, because a century and a half ago (assuming the truth of the story) the king of Uganda was willing to kill people who didn’t submit to his (homo)sexual advances, Uganda is to be commended for its persecution of gays. And, yes, though Lively considers the possibility of a death penalty to be excessive, he certainly seems to support criminalization of homosexual behavior and jailing (and “rehabilitation”) of gays. Anything is better than the “homosexualization” of the country — which, he claims, is what’s happened in South Africa and Brazil. Yeesh.
- Scientists find single ‘on-off’ gene that can change gender traits – Times Online – Remarkable how transitory and easily altered something so fundamental can be.
- Reid’s Office Defends Nixing Of Key Consumer Protection From Bill – Rrg. I’m trying not to blog overly much on the mess that is the Senate debate on the health care reform bill — if only because the picture changes so much day by day, and “it’s not over until it’s over.” But my sense is that, just as the GOP is desperate to keep anything from being passed, the Dems are desperate to get anything passed, and if that means compromising the bill horribly, that’s seen as a worthwhile cost.

Re: gender switching.
The female gene is FOXL2.
The male gene is SOX2.
I pray that someone with more than two brain cells to rub together today (i.e., not me) goes all Seussian with that.
Box with FOX.
Cocks with SOX.
Rocks with FOX makes Fox with Box.
Rocks with SOX makes Cocks, not Box.
Best one Talks, not Mocks, if Cock has.
Best one Talks, not Mocks, if Box has.
Since Cock can Box be,
And Box can Cock be,
Depending on how the SOX and FOX be!
Unless you’d rather than Cocks or Box
That you an Ox be.
HAHAHAHA!
Looks like my job to be hilarious is done here, Tonto.
