I mean, it seems like Win on so many levels. Bad-ass. Droll. Elegant. Commanding. And, honestly, it would be Helen Mirren as the Doctor which would be cool in and of itself. #ddtb

Helen Mirren Would Like to Play the Doctor, and We Would Be Extremely Okay With That
You guys, Helen Mirren just said in an interview that she would like to play the Doctor on Doctor Who. And then I exploded. Wow. Helen Mirren. Doctor Who. With a creamy wants to play center. Oh, did y…

If Dax could go from host to host irrespective of gender, surely the Doctor can manage a similar feat.
Actually, I’ll watch her in anything she cares to do, although I have yet to see Caligula, and I confess to not being interested in Love Ranch. I saw her first in Excalibur, and next as Rosalind in As You Like It, aside Angharad Rees (who I met in the Poldark serieson Masterpeice Theatre in the 70’s) as Celia.
Alas, I can’t quite afford this item right now: http://www.deepdiscount.com/dvd/Helen-Mirren-At-The-Bbc
@Marina – (Head just exploded realizing Morgana in Excalibur was Helen Mirren.)
There seems little (so far as I know of canon) that would keep the Doctor from regenerating as another gender, or another ethnicity. Or even as a ginger.
Rose Tyler: If you are an alien how come you sound like you’re from the North?
The Doctor: Lots of planets have a North!
I don’t want to see as Something That Must Be Done To Be Hip Or Politically Correct, but I think it could be interesting — both for who (in-story) would make note of it, and who would not (“You humaniforms all look alike to me”).
