Waaaaiit… Religion's been the elephant in the room for centuries? Millennia? So, ignorance has been around and reality ignored for a long, long time!
Cashing that check to pay that terrible price is gonna be nasty!
The first thought that came to my mind on reading that was of the climate change deniers.

The climate change denier connection did occur to me most, though some of the commentary over lessons (not) learned from the 2012 election also came to mind.
