Apparently, with the generic Top Level Doman (gTLD) program now undr way, the committee that runs it has suddenly realized that some companies are applying for entire generic domains (e.g., ".app" or ".music") with no intent to let anyone else use any of those addresses. They have a sense that this may be a problem, but they've already accepted applications (and application fees) from those companies and really don't want to have to provide refunds … (h/t +Wendy Cockcroft)
