Climate Change, Pregnancy, and Tuning Out Bad Advice

The psychology of why people do (or don't) pay attention to advice or warnings they are given is fascinating — and sometimes can have significant impact on actually risky or dangerous behavior.  It's easy to tune the message out when the messenger is shrill, or annoying, or challenging.  Sometimes such "sanity breaks" are useful, even necessary — but the annoyance of the messenger doesn't necessarily correlate with the truth (or importance) of the message, and you can go just as wrong ignoring things you should be worried about as you can worrying about things you shouldn't.
