The Environmental “Protection” Agency has proposed rules that would make it much easier for mining companies, working on mountaintop mines, to dump dirt and rock waste into adjoining rivers and streams. Their argument is that the Clean Water Act really doesn’t refer to dirt and rocks, and therefore shouldn’t be used in courts to try to keep mining companies from basically filling in valleys while tearing down mountains.

  1. This has a very good chance of being approved. Have you forgotten that Bush has installed some of the country’s stongest anti-environment lobbyists and industry pushers in the positions that have any control over this sort of thing. Even if Congress doesn’t change the law, these people have no interest in enforcing the law.
