Could it be? Some recent studies indicate that folks don’t remember commercials as well if the show is graphically violent or sexual. More visceral content seems to distract viewers from the ad messages.
In some ways, that’s almost a no-brainer (literally), but nobody seems to have thought of it before now.
So, will advertisers …
… force TV producers to tone down the sex and violence?
… pump up the sex and violence in their ads to somehow beat out the distraction? (That doesn’t seem to work, but …)
… ignore the study and figure that more people are watching shows that have sex and violence in them so they’d better advertise there?
