I finally bit the bullet and imported my old Blogger entries into MT (August through mid-December 2001). I’m not sure why I didn’t do it at the time, unless it had to do with nostalgia for the old layout or concern about all the extra work.
So they’re in, but I need to clean up the titles and fix the categories. That’s my blogging task for the morning. But when I’m done, I think it will have turned out to be a Good Thing.

Wow, how’d you manage that? Is your blogger ID still valid?
Yup. Which I had forgotten.
Blogger IDs stay good forever AFAICT. This is a blessing and a curse. It’s good if someone asks you to join a group blog. It’s bad when people want you to troubleshoot their Blogger blog.
Guess which one happens to me?
It wasn’t that I expected it to expire or anything, I just didn’t realize that I had left the account active. I expect I’ll leave it that way still, though I’ve changed the FTP password in the settings, just in case.
