We’re not talking, “My, a warm one today.” We’re talking just a tick short of utterly ennervating heat where everything goes still and the only sound is grass sizzling. A tick short of that, but only a tick.
We’ve been having temps in the 90s all week. And last week, too. I understand enough about weather variations not knee-jerk refer this to Global Warming, but it’s been unusually, persistently warm this summer.
Enough so that I actually asked Margie if she wanted me to arrange to have someone come out to give us an estimate about air conditioning. “Not during the summer,” she said wisely, and wearily. She’s borne the brunt of the heat, working here at home with the Kitten during most of the hottest days.
Hot. Hot. Hot.
And she observed that the temps for the rest of the week have been upgraded from 90-95 to 95-100. And if it gets hot enough, you’ll see my WeatherPixie strip down to his underwear.
You have been warned.
Yeah, we’re above our normal temps, too. And humid. I would die in the deep south. The heat doesn’t get me too bad – the humidity knocks me out.
I hate it when I am sitting in the house or in the shade and my face is dripping. Ugh!
You might want to get a window air conditioner.
For about $160. or so, you can at least cool down a sleeping room or two. I can say, it really helps.
Mercifully, while it is very hot here, the humidity tends to stay within reasonable bounds.
I’ve thought about a wall a/c unit. We could put one in our bedroom, though that would only help with some evening cooling (not to be sniffed at, certainly, but the temp usually drops down more into the comfort zone at night, and we have some powerful fans to shuffle it around). Down in the living areas, I can’t think of any window I’d care to give up to one of those noisy monsters.
Discussion to be revisited this winter. Stay tuned.
You guys are too used to the mild temperatures of Denver. It is regularly over 90-100 degrees for 2-3 months straight. With pretty life sucking humidity. Denver doesn’t get to complain about the weather. So turn the fans up another notch, keep the curtains closed and Dave – keep your weather pixie pants on, it will cool off in another month or so.
Oh, I am under no illusions that Denver is The Hell Hole of the Country. Indeed, climate is one reason why I am extremely unlikely ever to live east (or much south) of here.
All things considered, I love Denver weather. Especially the low humidity.
That having been said, I’m glad I work in an air conditioned office, and that the heat is usually fairly short in duration here.
Interestingly, here is So Cal, we’ve had the driest year on record and the coolest. Since the water stays cold, the storms don’t come it and it stays dry. But, the cool water keeps the coastal eddies around and that keeps the temps down. Hey, I’m not minding one bit, but the tourists at the beach might want 5 or 8 degrees more if they are planning on going into the water!
Well beachgoing in Calif. has always meant dealing with cold water, at least by Gulf Stream standards.
