Saddam Hussein’s speech to his people must have warmed the cockles of their oppressed hearts, as he promised to bring the front lines of any US-Iraq war into the cities — right where so many of them live. Atta boy — that’s good, humane leadership.
And, as James Taranto points out, Hussein’s promise that “all those who try to aggress against Arabs and Muslims” will find themselves “buried in their own coffin” may turn around to bite him, given his past war on Iran, his massacring of Kurds, his invasion of Kuwait — and, of course, his promise to use Iraqi citizens as human shields.
