Work a long Friday to make up for the upcoming holiday weekend (woo-hoo!). Longer than expected, but found ways to occupy myself.
D&D. Margie’s off to a church function gathering thang tonight, so I get to run her character (I was the second backup), so we’re running at the house so that Katherine can snooze in her own bed (which means snooze at all). Margie prepped good food, which everyone ate, and a good time was had by all — though everyone left by 10, which is nigh unheard of. Margie’s character — an 8th or 9th level ranger/rogue/watchman type, fully laden with cool magic items, reminded me of why I like simpler characters — my eyes scanned across page after page of item inventories, feats, spell lists, notes, familiars/mounts/pets, and tons of combat modifiers depending on what was being used and how many attacks were being executed and what magic items and feats were being utilized … It was reminiscent of the scene in Airplane when Ted first confronts the controls of the jet. Yeesh.
Saturday
More Margie church thang, so Katherine and I get to do Father-Daughter something-or-another. Most of which consisted of Father being a slug. Randy came over mid-day, to watch last week’s Farscape, and then we chitchatted for a while (as we are wont to do) on gaming and comics stuff.
Maybe — just maybe — do some manual pre-labor on the fence. I figured out last weekend where the gate will be (not where I had originally intended, but the slope was too great there), so I might level that spot out, do some exploratory post hole digging (to confirm how many sprinkler lines and control wires I can destroy), and make a List of Materials I need. Ended up doing this on Sunday. I need to make some electronic diagrams, as well as do that BoM, but the next step is probably scheduling a weekend with the D-Man (for post-hole digging and post cementing), and then a succeeding weekend for a Fence Hammering Party.
Sunday
More of the same. Other yard stuff, too. Maybe some planning on the landscaping out front? Did some crude surveying of the rise in the front yard, so we can plan on some retaining wall work (while all the grass is dead/dormant). Also did some major hacking back of the lilac outside the kitchen window (which had grown to be blocking the kitchen window).
Set up Kitten’s computer downstairs. Well, all the pieces are in place, they just need to be plugged in and the machine double-checked to be certain there’s nothing useful on it before we fill it with Kittenware.
Screws.
I’d highly recommend using screws for your fencing rather than nails.
Makes for incredibly quick work.
Yeah, I’ve heard that, and that was my plan. Makita is my friend.
