It’s not because the coverage is shallow, silly, and trivial, full of misleading promos, self-aggrandizing fluff, and talking bubbleheads.
It’s because every commercial break right now is wall-to-wall smear ads which paint every single candidate for every office as a scum-sucking lobbyist/politician/zillionaire/special interest pawn/Simon Legree/tax-raiser/zillionaire-coddling cretin.
Except for the few exceptions that have the candidate painted as a just-plain-folk candidate for sainthood. Particularly in comparison to that other guy, who’s a scum-sucking etc.
I despise all these people. Even the ones I don’t know anything about.
Feh.
Just be glad you’re not still in California. Faced with the prospect of choosing between Gray Davis and Bill Simon, I may actually abstain from voting for the first time in 24 years!
Latest bit of “mature” behavior: Davis vows to run only positive advertising. One week later, an old smear ad against Simon runs. Simon’s people (who run plenty of mud-slinging themselves) shout “hypocrisy,” prompting Davis’ people to proclaim, “they started it.”
Pardon me while I am violently ill.
