Doyce has discovered a marvelous listing of US military operation names. Many of them are so prosaically noble as to be insipid (not unlike “Operation: Iraqi Freedom,” but others are interestingly goofy:

Operation: Bevel Edge
Operation: Noble Obelisk
Operation: Zorro II
Operation: Garden Plot
Operation: Frequent Wind
Operation: Graphic Hand

Fun.

  1. What about Market-Garden? Our current plan sort of reminded me of it, although we didn’t drop the airborne to secure the bridges for the 3rd ID. We seem way too strung out and open to attacks on our supply lines.

  2. We’ll see. It’s not clear to me yet that’s the case. “Island Hopping”/Blitzkrieg tactics have that weakness, certainly, but also significant strengths, and I think it’s way too early to be labeling the current situation a failure.
