Douglas Co., immediately to our south, has finally, after eleven years, been dethroned as the fastest-growing county in the US.

I can’t tell you how this breaks my heart.

While I really try not to be the sort who says, “Okay, now that I’ve moved here, I don’t want anyone else to,” the fact is that I don’t want the Denver metro area to grow as fast as it has been. And since DougCo growth has usually been not terribly well-planned (“Sewers? We need sewers? Why didn’t someone tell me we need sewers?”), seeing it drop to a paltry 6th place is not gut-wrenching news. And it’s not like a 6.8% annual growth rate signals stagnation.

The top ranking, which is based on percentage increase, now goes to Rockwall County, Texas, near Dallas. Good luck, y’all.

UPDATE: No, the irony of this growth story, just above the previous water restriction story, did not escape me.
