Whew. I so rarely get to actually check off something from my Endless List of Big Projects I’m Working On … but now I have.
Introducing … the new, improved, WIST.
The main new-and-improvement is that it’s all done via MT, rather than FrontPage. Aside from now being a lot easier to maintain (more on that below), it takes up a lot less space. In FrontPage, the system took up 4.2Mb of space, consisting of 803 files in 41 folders under root. In MT, the system takes up 2.2Mb of space, 153 files, 1 folder under root.
That’s pretty keen.
And since it’s easier to maintain (export from the Access database to a text file, which is then SSIed into the appropriate MT page), it means it might get updated more frequently …
… which, of course, means more work, since WIST is an ongoing effort (15 years now, under that name) of gathering and identifying quotations.
So, as “Finish MT conversion of WIST” gets checked off, “Continue adding to WIST” gets tacked onto the To Do list.
Ah, well … it’s still a good feeling.
