Quoth my mom:
This morning when we talked I forgot to ask you whether you think the book Peter Norton’s DOS Guide is worth keeping. Dave you gave it to us for Christmas in 1988.
Yeesh. I know people who use computers who weren’t even born in 1988.
As a collector’s item, though …
I have DOS for Dummies. I still have an old laptop with DOS on it. I use it (the laptop) for some things. Hey it works.
Beats not having one at all, certainly. Still, it was, computationally and desktop-metaphorically, a whole other world. (Printer drivers! Escape codes! Single application execution! Eek!)
Heh. I still have my copies of Microsoft MS-DOS 6.2 Concise User’s Guide (for Distribution Only With a New PC) and Que’s MS-DOS 6 Quick Reference Guide (Quick Command Listings Make Information Easy-to-Find!). Both are from 1993. Before that, I was still using my Commodore.
