So far, two comments (from managers) asking why the hell I’m wearing a tie (especially when they’re not). Not sure if it just seems weird, or if they’re afraid I’m putting ideas in peoples’ heads about proper office attire.
Tieing one on
So far, two comments (from managers) asking why the hell I’m wearing a tie (especially when they’re not). Not sure if it just seems weird, or if they’re afraid I’m…
So is the new rule not a new rule for all managers? Or are you the next tier up?
The New Rule is for IT Managers, from the office of the CIO. His directs (“Level 1 Managers” a/k/a L1) have had the rule for some time. It’s being pushed down to L2 and L3 now, oh-boy.
(I am de jure a L3, but de facto a L2, since the hypothetical position above mine has never been filled and is not likely to be.)
But as far as the business operation goes, at least here in Denver, it’s “tie if you’re meeting with a client, business casual otherwise.” Especially on the government work side that’s been a slow change, so I’m sure that explains some of the queries.
I’ve taken to wearing ties on Wednesday; the other guys in the office are starting to do it, too. Hey, I have nice clothese — why not wear them?
Besides, I love my Jerry Garcia ties.
I have some Jerry Garcia ties (including some of these) I still love, so I’m not heartbroken (from that perspective) to have them back in circulation. On the other hand, I don’t much care for the current crop of them out there (particularly since it’s not clear exactly how Jerry was involved in their design, being dead now for some years).
Holy crap — just discovered (through not resetting the search engine in my toolbar) that Amazon sells ties, too.
Anyway, more tie-hunting sources. Hmmmm …
I have some JG ties I love (including some of these — hmm, more fodder for tie-buying), so I don’t mind seeing them get back into rotation.
On the other hand, I’m not that fond of the current crop of them I’ve seen in the stores, particularly since it’s unclear how, several years dead, Jerry is actually involved in the designs …
Urg. Comment problems are getting very, very irksome …
Yeah…I also like the Jery Garcia ties, though I suspect that he is busy sitting in an after-life sweatshop next to L. Ron Hubberd, Gene Roddenberry, and Tupac.
Hey! Who stole my comment? It was here 10 minutes ago!
Now nobody can see that beautiful tie with Kirk, Spock, and McCoy on it! Oh, the deprivation is too much too bear. I’m inconsolable.
Huh. I saw it. It was here. Really.
Part II of this post has Avocet’s Star Trek post.
Perfect for the nerd going to Star-Con…
Ah. Okay, in the other Tieing One On post. Good.
