Les has been doing some extensive reviewing of the public beta of MT 3.0, and now Mena Trott comments on the new release, which can be summed up as, we’ve completely rebuilt the chassis.
Which, for folks looking for a band new body, a high-powered stereo, and a chrome-plated lunch dispenser, will be a disappointment.
But once you have the chassis, the rest of it can be built a lot more easily. Indeed, loading a bunch of features on an old chassis can ultimately only lead to troubles. The new MT API will let much more sophisticated and powerful plug-ins — some from Six Apart, and some, likely, for pay — be built, adding the features that folks want to add.
And after his disappointed earlier words, I’m glad to hear Les confirm that the upgrade is worth it for current users. I look forward to a very long Friday night one of these days …
