Nice interview with Joe Straczynski on his plans for Doctor Strange.

I’ve always been a big fan of Dr. Strange, but I never thought he really got his due. A large measure of the responsibility for this lay in the fact that for the most part he was never really fleshed out that much outside of the magical aspects. Who is this guy, at his absolute core? We all know the fundamental arc of his story: doctor / accident / Tibet / Ancient-One / here’s-your-cape — but that doesn’t tell us who he is. The best stories are character stories, and he was all too often defined by what he did, what he had to do, rather than who he was.

Even during his hey-day, DS has been more of a supporting character in the Marvel Universe — sort of a Phantom Stranger, popping in, intoning about Dire Stuff A-Brewing — then popping back out. JMS has done some fun things with DS in Amazing Spider-Man, but this looks like it’s going to be even better.

No idea, mind you, how it ties into the “real” Marvel Universe, but I’m definitely there for this title.
