The Lord has a way of revealing those of us who really know him, and those that don’t!
Think about it!
Kerry gave a big speech last week about how his faith is so “important” to him. In this attempt to convince the American people that we should consider him for president, he announced that his favorite Bible verse is John 16:3.
Of course the speech writer meant John 3:16, but nobody in the Kerry camp was familiar enough with scripture to catch the error. And do you know what John 16:3 says? John 16:3 says; “They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me.” The Spirit works in strange ways.

Except, of course, the same e-mail was earlier circulated about George W. Bush.

And, before that, about Al Gore.

Though there’s at least one person who claims to know the real culprit.

I love the Snopes site. You can see all their new urban legends listed here, which includes an XML feed and an e-mail update subscription link.

  1. Snopes is always valuable. A friend of my wife’s who is Kerry supporter told her to get on the Internet to find out things for herself (because obviously being for Bush is prima facie evidence of being an ingnoramus). In the case above, this “story” was reported on talk radio. A few seconds onto Snopes and the myth was obliterated.

Internet misinformation is the plaything of both conservatives and liberals. I am ALWAYS skeptical when the Internet is cited as the source (especially if the quote is just plain too convenient for my side). It may be true, but not until I have vetted it with snopes. Another valuable vetting site I use in the medical/health area is http://www.quackwatch.com.

  2. I am the Snopes Lookup Guy for my folks (hi, Mom!), who have learned to vet Amazing Things Forwarded Them By E-Mail past me (and, thus, Snopes) before they pass them on to friends and family.

Nine times out of ten, they’re bogus.

  3. Your folks must have access to the really accurate stuff to have only 9 out of 10 wrong! If I get forwarded yet another warning of how Madilyn Murray-O’Hair is going to take religious broacasting off the air (from the grave no less), I am going to scream. I feel sorry for the poor slob(s) at the FCC who has to go through all the bogus mail/e-mail.
