I want it on the record that I suggested a Return of the King-watching shindig for my birthday party long before I read this….
My parents gave me a boxed set of all three LotR extended edition DVDs for Christmas. They knew I’d been waiting for the third one to come out. It’s going to be great to watch them, but Crikey there’s a lot of stuff there! The package contains 12 DVDs!
I’ve just watched Fellowship of the Ring so far, and the new material was very impressive. Because I watched the theatrical release when it first came out, I can’t always tell what’s new though. As a result, I’m once again reminded of something I’ve always thought should be possible with DVDs. It should be possible to put two different “cuts” of the same movie on the same DVD. I want the ability to watch the original theatrical release, OR the extended edition, from the same DVD. Do you know of any reason why that can’t be done?
I think it has been done with some releases. No technical reason why it couldn’t be that I’m aware of.
Usually these types of DVD’s are dual sided. Just the same as the ones that are both letterbox, and TV screened.
Me, I would love the ability to add or subtract deleted scenes to my liking.
