I’ve taken out the MT-DSBL plug-in. This looked for posts coming from servers identified as open proxy relays, which, in turn, should have given a presumptive identification as a comment spammer. (MT-ProxyPlug seems to do something similar.)
Problem is, the only comments it ended up throwing into moderation, after I installed it, were from Randy, Mary, and Stan. Since I’m actually interested in what they have to comment here, that was kind of a pain. So I’ve removed it for the time being (which change should be transparent to everyone, but I wanted to put it on the record).
As a note to myself in the future, there’s an interesting mod to MT-DSBL here that might be worth implementing (it uses a better, more targeted open proxy list).
I’ve actually implemented it (for dsbl_moderate, at least as a test), so we’ll see how it goes.
And, so far, it’s letting some people comment, so it’s not completely broken now (on the other hand, I haven’t see any messages that it’s blocked anyone yet …).
