Micro$oft has agreed that if it names the Windows Media Player-less version of Windows “Windows Wimpy” (okay, actually “Windows Reduced Media Edition”), it might, um, discourage folks from buying it.
“The commission has requested that we change the name from the original suggestion,” said Dirk Delmartino, a Microsoft spokesman, adding, “We have agreed to make the change. We’re working together with the commission to come up with an alternative name.”
M$ is thought to be suggesting “Legalistic Court-Ordered We’re-Still-Appealing-So-Buy-It-While-You-Can Edition.”
Jeeze. You’d think they would try to put a positive spin on things. I can see them trying to call it the “Windows Good Corporate Citizen Edition” or something like that. Of course, a name like that might have them back in court defending themselves from charages of deceptive advertising.
