A Chinese company is going to be producing … um … how can I say this … fish wine.

Sun Keman, an entrepreneur in the northeastern port city of Dalian, has formed the Dalian Fisherman’s Song Maritime Biological Brewery, with a plan to use his background in the fishing industry to make fish into wine.

“Different from China’s thousands of years of brewing, the brewery will clean, boil, and ferment fish for making wine,” the official Xinhua news agency reported.

Um … no.

  1. I want to know what sort of technical terms ichthy-oenophiles use to describe the subtle variations of the stuff.

    “Mmm. Just a hint of week-dead sardine behind a fine, full-bodied flounder…”

Or maybe with fishwine it’s just “kicks like a mule” and “cheaper than plum wine”.

  2. I’m willing to give it a try. If I put fish sause on food (at least getting rid of the salt levels), it wouldn’t be all that much of a stretch.

Plus, Can’t be any worse then the following:

Licorice and several anise based alcohols (all nasty)

    Bourbon (smells like vomit, nasty)

    Natto (nasty)

    Sea Urchin (nasty)

    Sea Cucumber (nasty)

100 year old Duck and Quail eggs (edible, but not the flavor sensation I was looking for)

Lotus noodles with eel (darn good)

    Real Kim Chi (darn good!)

    Horse (better then beef!)

White Bait (crunchy because of the bones!)

Rocky Mountain Oysters (yet another delivery system for cocktail sauce!)

  3. First off, all of the subjects in Hippy school were set up to reinforce each other. So if you were doing something in Science, you were also doing it in English, and Math. In English we read http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0316881791/qid=1107280403/sr=8-6/ref=pd_csp_6/103-1989874-5230225?v=glance&s=books&n=507846 “target=”register only”>Never Cry Wolf. In the book is a chapter on the wolves sustaining themselves on mice (voles), complete with mouse recipes. So as preparation before going to Windy Peak outdoor lab for the week, We had to determine what the calorie needs of a child that weighed X amount of Kilos, How many calories an average mouse contained, so that we could prove that we could live off mice for a day at Windy Peak for a day. Follow up was a report on the whole thing.

  4. I find most whiskeys unpalatable. Though I like anise liqueurs.

There’s no accounting for tastes (I well appreciate). The Chinese, I understand, find the whole concept of cheese rather nauseating.

[BD’s lengthy comment above was originally moderated by MT-BL, for reference to a farm animal. I released it, which makes his “mouse” comment a bit easier to understand.]
