We’d landed at LAX, were parked at the gate, and everyone was queued up in the aisle to go …
… and I realized I was hearing an odd conversation. And, after a moment, realized it was someone on their cell phone …
… set to speaker phone …
… with the volume cranked up loudly …
… and speaking to it loudly, too.
I’ve been on conference calls in offices where it was more difficult to follow the conversation, and this guy was several rows forward. And, evidently, oblivious to the folks around him making remarks.
So we all sat there for a few minutes, listening to him give his wife directions on how to get somewhere. And, when it was over, she said, “Bye,” he said, “Bye,” and about a dozen other folks (myself included) shouted, “Bye!”
He didn’t get it. He remained confused as to why folks were saying, “Bye.”
Amazing. I almost suggested aloud that he call a catalog company and order something online, so we could get his credit card numbers and everything …
