We use Sprint Personal Conferencing at my company — if I want to set up a conference call, I send all the participants a standard phone number (toll free, plus an International number) plus a code that represents “my” conference area. It’s a hell of a lot easier than juggling normal conference calling, especially for calls that may have a dozen or more participants.

There’s an automated attendant who answers the call (“Welcome to Sprint Personal Conferencing. Please enter your …”), and it’s been the same for the last three-four years we’ve been doing it. I’ve probably heard that particular voice hundreds of times.

And now it’s changed! She’s perky! She’s peppy! She’s happy and hyped up and cheerful and …

… damned jarring. It’s like finding someone’s painted your office orange.

Certainly attracts my attention, or it will until I get used to it. Right now it makes me blink every time I hear it.
