It’s amazing the shows coming to DVD. It’s like my entire childhood can be purchased on disc.

The Time Tunnel is the latest entry. I had a serious love of this show when I was a wee lad. Indeed, I had a green turtleneck when I was in Katherine’s age (i.e., when I was in Kindergarten) that I called my “Tony shirt.”

I’ve watched the series since then, and it’s craptastic, but I still get a chill when I see the sets, or hear the music, or do anything other than contemplate the threadbare stories. Not sure that’s worth $30 to me for the set, but, still, it’s amazing to think of life before TV series could be so easily recalled from … well … the past.

  1. I have mixed feelings about revisiting childhood favorites. I recall the “Titanic” episode being good. And the episode where the aliens take over the time tunnel. But would I find “The Invaders” as creepy? How about “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea”? We all loved that as kids, but I’d probably laugh at it now. Maybe it’s better just to savor the memories!

  2. I’d like to see The Invaders again — yes, damned creepy at the time (and, in fact, a predecessor to the whole “alien conspiracy theory” school of comtemporarily set SF). And, as a QM production, not quite so, um, overheated as the Irwin Allen shows.

VttBotS was, like Lost in Space, a show that started off interesting (in its black and white days), but soon degenerated to the “improbable monster in a rubber suit” each week. That said, always thought the Flying Sub was cool beans …
