One year later, I was working as a computer repairguy, and someone traded in an IBM PC Jr. for a real computer (a 486, if memory serves). The PC Jr. wasn’t usable, so we took it out in a field and hashed it up with a 12 ga. shotgun. Then carefully put what was left on the “to be repaired” shelf with a filled-out work order; “Computer won’t boot up”.
Howls of laughter as boss fell for it, ranted for twenty seconds or so about how they could hardly expect a shattered hulk to work at all… “oh, wait, this is a joke, right?” Heh – good times.
We had a friend who bought a PCjr. I remember first seeing it, and wonder where the “Speak ‘n’ Spell” logo was …
