I’ve loved the original SimCity since I first played it on my Mac SE/30. Simple, straightforward, endless fun. Though later versions added in additional building types, elevations, and other factors, the basic SimCity still makes me smile.

  1. I loved the original SimCity. That game was a blast.

I have to admit, while I have played all but the most recent iteration of the game none of them have ever been as much fun as the original one was. The added complexity made the game more ‘real’, I suppose, but the pure simplicity of the original is still much more interesting.

Oddly enough, I don’t feel the same way about the somewhat similar series of Civilization. I really like each new generation of the game better then the previous one. Speaking of which, I need to get a copy of Civilization IV sometime soon…

  2. I have a ‘stack of shame’ in my living room right now, next to my gaming consoles. All the PS2, XBox, and Gamecube games I am halfway through and haven’t finished yet. I have half-convinced myself that I won’t buy any new games until I finish some that are in the stack. Though really, that has been pretty easy so far since there hasn’t been any games out lately for my consoles that I really wanted.

  3. We are freed from that dilemma because we are game heathen and don’t own any game systems. (I don’t count the hand-me-down Play Station downstairs because really only kitten uses it.) We only have to contend with computer games. I can count the computer games I’ve played in the last year on one hand. Dave on the other hand…

  4. I really want Civ IV. I have an Xbox, but have never really done that much with it. I certainly won’t be upgrading to a 360 anytime soon.

  5. The last five PC games I have bought… CoV: Special Edition, CoH: DVD Edition, SWG: Jump to Lightspeed, CoH, Civ3: Conquests. I think that covers about two to three years of PC gaming for me.

And yeah… Civ4… *drool* I like how each of the Civilizations have 2 different starting leaders now with different traits, religion has more of an affect on your civilization instead of being an abstract ‘step’ along the tech tree, they stole the Alpha Centauri government system and call it ‘Civics’, natural resources are more useful and less of a game-buster if you don’t have them, they added the Wonder movies back into the game, a lot more Wonders were added, and stopping now before I start hyperventilating at all the new cool stuff they added in ( and some of the stuff they apparently removed like Corruption and Pollution ).
