The NY Times discovers Trader Joe’s, the California-based specialty food store, now expanding to NYC.
Love TJ’s, and it’s one of the things I miss living here in Denver. (Like Ikea, Denver is off the list of possible expansions because we’re relatively isolated, population-center-wise, and so extending the distribution network here doesn’t make any sense to them right now.) (On the other hand, they’re opening in Albuquerque soon, so …) Fortunately, on my many visits to California, there are mulitple in Pasadena (including what I think is the original store, just up the street from my office) and the surrounding environs, as well as near the in-laws, so I can usually grab some yummy simmer sauces, or Gingeroos, to bring home.
TJ’s has changed over the past decade — become a bit less quirky, a bit more “trendy one-stop-shop meals for DINKs.” They do, though, still have good food and some good deals. Hope they get a good reception in the Big Apple.
TJ’s is one of the wonderful things I’ve discovered since moving to Washington. They have some really amazing stuff, including the best Dark Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans I’ve ever had.
They make some pretty mean Dark Chocolate Covered Ginger, too. 🙂
Hmm. I do believe I’ll have to stop on my way home and find some of that!
