Bits and pieces …
- The original plan last night was that I’d pick up Margie at Ontario at 7:30p. She got done with her Oakland meetings early, and caught a flight on stand-by to John Wayne Orange County (SNA) earlier in the afternoon. Despite that, the Ks still offered to watch Katherine for the evening, and Margie and I went to Catal for dinner. Nice (and yummy).
- Off in the Cypress office today, which is only 20 minutes down the freeway, rather than 90. Always got officed in odd corners; today I’m in a conference room, which is kind of nice if attractive of glares. I still have a local printer assignment from earlier visits, which is good, but they don’t have a copy-to-email printer here. No worries — they have a fax machine instead, so if I need to print and sign and scan something to forward elsewhere, I can do that.
- Always odd with the time differences when I come here. Not so much the 1 hour change, but the office hour change. At home, I get into the office by 6. Here, it’s tough to get in (due to commutes and/or needing a local person to vouch for me as a “visitor” before 7:30. So I’m essentially starting everything 2 hours late (and having to stay 2 hours longer). Feh.
- Looking forward to the long weekend vacation, though the timing for people being away in my department is just awful. I’m off on a pre-planned family vacation Friday/Monday. One of my direct report managers who is relocating to another country is taking a lost weekend with the spouse’s family on Friday/Monday. Another of my directs is out all next week on a long-planned Alaska cruise, available by cell only at ports of call. My third direct is out next Tuesday-Wednesday for medical reasons. And another lead who backs up two of those directs is moving house on Tuesday-Wednesday and so is out of the office and not easy to get hold of.
Hopefully, no major crises are looming.
Ah, the disappointment. One of the pleasures of Cypress is going down the street to a Carl’s Jr. for lunch. Alas, they no longer have their chili cheese fries.
You look forward to gas station food?
They’re, like, real live fast food restaurants out here, not gas-station add-ons. Go figure.
I actually like Carls a lot, especially their Western Bacon Cheeseburger. But I love chili cheese fries in particular, and am disappointed they have gone off-menu.
Dave, do you recall the first time I went to Carl’s Jr? You and my then-wife took me there for my birthday. As I recall, one of the things you liked was that they bring the food to your table, rather than making you come up to the counter to fetch it yourself.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen chili fries there. I did very much enjoy their crisscut fries, though.
I honestly don’t recall it. But I do like that Carl’s does the table service to this day.
