So last week at Kitten’s 6-year-old check-up, there were more indications that she might have some near-sightedness.
I have no idea where that could come from …
Evidently, much squinting at the eye chart and the like. The guesstimate was 20/40, which is a darned sight (ha) better than I am, let me tell you.
Anyway, this prospect came up a year ago, too — and Kitten was, at the time, aghast at the whole idea of glasses. I suspect that someone had made a comment about kids who wear glasses, and she was convinced this was a fate worse than death.
This time? She’s actually enthusiastic about it. After the doctor’s exam, she and Margie stopped by the optician shop at the clinic and Kitten found some glasses (Barbie branded, natch) she really liked, and seemed very happy. And this morning, facing the prospect of an actual eye exam tomorrow, she was capering about, singing about getting glasses, as Margie IMed it, “sing song like it was ice cream or a trip to Chuck E Cheese.” Though she understood that it was a “maybe.”
We’ll see. (Ha.)
