
This past week has been very typical Denver winter — cold, but not bone-chilling. And while I was away, most of the snow and ice on the sunny sides of streets took a real pounding, melt-wise. We still have street drifts in the parking area, but the yard is clean and all.
This morning? Temps in the teens, and a slow, steady snow drizzle. At least I wore some boots.
Interestingly, the ground was warm enough from a week or so of relatively temperate weather to cause the initial dusting of snow to melt — then freeze to ice, with subsequent dustings sitting on top of that. Which meant that …
1. Walking was more treacherous than one might think.
2. Shoveling walks was not as useful as one might think — and was even more hampered on ground that had been “sanded” as the large grains/pebbles froze in the ice then made shoveling the snow around them impossible.
Still, not all that bad out. Just cold.
