Okay, probably the next to the last guy out there to have not seen the season finale of Battlestar Galactica, but finally caught it on DVR re-run.
And … wow.
Not quite sure what I think — aside from someone went in and knock around a lot of chairs and tables. This episode had about four or five climaxes (the trial outcome, the jump, the gathering, the attack, the bogey, the final zoom-zoom …
(And, no, not giving away any details, for that person out there who is the last person to have not seen it.)
Anyway … hell of a speech by Apollo. A bit heavy-handed by the prosecution, and a bit rigged of an outcome … but Apollo’s speech really brought home a lot of what I’ve been saying the show is about — the battle to hold onto civilization and values when survival is on the line.
As for the rest … yowzers.
Then, again, I thought the climax of Series 2 was pretty yowzers, too … and that was both more structured (if rushed) and a lot more ultimately disappointing.
Still, and there are times I wouldn’t have said this, I’m jonesing to see how they pull enough rabbits out of the hat to make the summer worthwhile.
*the last guy to see the series 3 ender waits patiently for the DVD’s to come out*
Well, there you go. You owe me a beer. 🙂
That other person is me! I’m only three episodes into the third season. I’m still shocked and appalled by XXXXXX and YYYYYY’s attempt to ZZZZZZ the QQQQQQQQ.
Woo-hoo! Two people owe me beers for not spoiling.
The season does get better, Steve. 🙂
Overall, I was disappointed with Season 3 and the final episodes. I may not buy the DVD’s and I’m even considering cutting my TV time more by not watching Season 4 or the direct-to-DVD movie.
Hmmm…haven’t heard about “Caprica”, the prequel series in a while. Scuttled, maybe? Ratings sure did fall for the show. The Cylons have a plan…do the creators of the show have a plan?
Sigh.
I don’t think S.3 was as strong as the others. The New Caprica bits were just unpleasant, the excessive time spent with the Cylons was unrewarding, and any season with a “boxing” episode is close to jumping the shark.
That said, there were some good bits. Baltar’s trial, in general. The temple stuff. *Some* of the soap opera. The season finale exemplified the good and bad of the whole thing — lots of interesting bits, way too much happening, examining some important issues, but scattered all over the place.
I would give the season a B. I’ll still be watching — but, honestly, my money’s on EJO’s prediction that S.4 will be it.
