Woot!  A ninety minute Christmas special and a bonus sixty minute episode!

The Runaway Bride:  Great alien, great menace, huge special effects, and a new Companion … maybe!  That and an all-action Gershwin soundtrack!  Triffic start.

Oh, and plenty of “Huh, you mean the loss of Rose Tyler actually had an effect on the Doctor’s psyche?” amusement.

Smith and Jones:  Great aliens, great menace, pretty decent special effects, and a new Companion … maybe!  Oh, and introducing the charming, brilliant, slightly-creepy-stalker Doctor!  Triffic second ep.

Glee!

  1. Great fun, wasn’t it? But I thought the Christmas episode soundtrack was distracting and very “BBC Radiophonic Orchestra.” It would have played very well under a “Roadrunner” cartoon. Maybe it was just a sound level thing on cable in our area, but it made the dialogue hard to catch.

  2. The sound level of the music has been a problem all through the show, I’ve found (and, in combination with deciphering accents, has sometimes made dialog deucedly difficult).

That said, the music — epic and melodramatic — was definitely a co-star in the Christmas episode.

To my mind, the key moment of that ep was when the Bride raised the issue of Rose — and suddenly everything went from Marx Bros. romp to deadly serious, at least for a few beats.

  3. Oh fun…and the older ones are in black and white even. *glee* That is a great picture with wonderful Charactures. 🙂

Okay, none of the male Companions, so that will cut down on the list a bit.

Off the top of my head, left to right:

-Susan (the Doctors Grand-daughter and also a Galafrayian, so he is not the last one – 1st Doctor)

    -Vicki (1ft Doctor)

-Sara (A VERY young Jean Marsh, who knew she was ever young. ;P – 1st Doctor)

Ahh…not completely in season order…Where is Dodo?

    -Polly (2nd Doctor)

    -?

    -Zoe (a great character – 2nd Doctor)

-Victoria or Liz Shaw? Though I don’t remember them being blond.

Now we get to the ones that Dave will know and love.

    -Jo Grant (3rd Doctor)

-Sara Jane Smith (3rd Doctor – a little of the 4th)

-Lela (Best thing in Buckskin. ;P – 4th Doctor)

    -Romana 1 (4th Doctor)

-Romana 2 (the first actress moved on but they had a lot of Romana plot to go, so since she was a Galafreyian, she regenerated – 4th Doctor)

    -Nyssa (4th and 5th Doctor)

-Tegan (one of the most amusing things to come out of Australia . ;P – 4th and 5th Doctor)

    -Peri (5th and 6th Doctor)

    -Mel (6th Doctor)

-Ace (who, again was not a blond blond and she loved to make improvised explosives – 7th Doctor)

    -?

-and lastly Rose (9th and 10th Doctor)

So, do I win some sort of geek award?
