Interesting news video (being passed around inside the company) about kids and smoke detector alarms. Bottom line — often kids don’t notice the alarm going off and sleep right through it, with predictably fatal consequences.
We’ve actually seen this at home — Katherine has slept through our alarm system going off, let alone the smoke alarms. And while the news video is narrated in a typically breathless tone, it is potentially a serious problem.
Interestingly, smoke alarms that allow you to record your voice as part of the alarm seem to be much more effective, esp. with kids. Which sounds like a great racket to get people to replace all their smoke detectors (once the tech is on the market), but may be a racket worth buying into.
